Hi, I’m Jess Ray.

Certified Family Dog Mediator ® and passionate advocate for canids of all types and origins.

Somewhere in the last 20 years or so, I believe we lost our way and stopped letting dogs be dogs. Their world, like ours, has changed.
A lot.

In a world full of screens and social media, a growl is seen as “aggression”, barking is labeled “reactivity” and leash-pulling is “your dog dominating you”.

We subject them (and ourselves) to hectic schedules and doggy-day cares, board-and-trains and beer gardens, trips to the big box stores and dog parks. We expect perfectly behaved, extroverted,  borderline Animatronic,  “fur babies” who’ve never met a human or dog they don’t like.

On top of it all, we see dogs bred for snow living in the desert and high-energy working breeds are cooped up in inner city apartments with no outlet. Meanwhile ASPCA’s and Humane Societies across the country are filled beyond capacity with dogs who, for the most part,  did nothing more than be a dog.

Seriously.  What are we doing?!

Here’s an invitation to consider something a little different.

To shift our perspective, our expectations, and explore a new mindset.

To understand that our dogs are sentient beings who view their world through an olfactory landscape fueled by their senses, raw emotions, early life experiences and natural instincts.

To see your dog, and their world, through a new lens: the lens of their L.E.G.S.®

As a Certified Family Dog Mediator®, (learn more about that here) I guide you through the lens of L.E.G.S.®: Learning, Environment, Genetics, and Self.

Together we craft a clear picture of who your dog really is and what your dog really needs.

With simple, real-life tools and strategies, we address the tension points, reduce stress, and create space for meaningful change at your dog’s pace, and yours.

No complex training plans. No fancy gadgets and most importantly, no fear.

Together, we create a lifestyle that works for you and your dog.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, or simply curious, I offer a free. zero-pressure 30-minute call where we can explore what’s going on and how I might help.

  • If traditional training methods haven’t worked, or if you feel like something is missing, Family Dog Mediation can help. The objective is to uncover the why behind their behavior and how to create realistic solutions for your life together.

  • Every mediation session is tailored to the dog, guardian, and environment. Similarly, LEGS® workshops are tailored to the audience. Keeping in mind that the best first step is to schedule a free 30-min call, I encourage you to explore each of the dedicated pages linked below:

  • I prefer in-person sessions whenever possible since context and environment matter so much in this work. However, I do offer virtual workshops and virtual follow-up sessions on a case by case basis.

  • Safety, well being and ethics are my top priority. If I discover after our zero-pressure call that your dog is in fact “aggressive” and/or “reactive”, not simply fearful, anxious, or lacking impulse control and, if your dog needs specialized support (such as medication) I will connect you with the appropriate professional who can best support your needs.

  • Every family, every dog, and every situation is different. I don’t believe in a “one-size-fits-all” price tag. I work on a flexible pricing model that reflects the scope of support you need, with a sliding scale available to help keep services accessible. After our free 30-min call, I will provide a clear recommendation and the costs associated. My belief is that every dog deserves understanding, and every family deserves support, without money being the barrier.

Let’s work together.
